MSU Men’s Basketball team is off to a rough start this year. Starting the season at 12-9, for most college basketball teams this would not be bad. But MSU is a high class basketball school with an average win percentage of .614. So considering how historically great they have been, they are having a down year this year.

Throughout this season MSU has been consistently mediocre, but their play in the last few games has been gradually improving. This year they don’t have a really big star, they just have a solid group of core players. And if MSU plans on making the tournament, they better keep playing at this high level they have been for the past few games.

To start, the NCAA tournament is basically the playoffs for college basketball. It’s the most important event in college basketball by far. For the first time in over 23 years, MSU is on the cusp of missing the tournament. If MSU doesn’t make it this year, it will mark the first time they don’t make it since 1997.. That would break their streak of 23 straight years of making the March Madness Tournament and would be just the third time the Spartans didn’t make the tournament under command of coach Tom Izzo.  Now, 23 years is alarmingly impressive, that the 4th longest current steak in all of college basketball.

Now let’s get to what they need to do in order to make the NCAA Tournament. To start, there isn’t a set amount of win that they specifically need to do to make it. It is up to NCAA Men’s Dl Basketball Committee, they decide who are the best teams and what their seeding is. After a very bad loss to Maryland, MSU’s odds to make it significantly decreased. But if MSU wants to make it, they must win against Indiana and finish above other big 10 teams like Minnesota, Penn State, and Indiana. If MSU wins, they are almost guaranteed to make the tournament. Another way they could lock themselves a spot is if they make the Big 10 tournament and go relatively far in it . The information in this paragraph is from an article Michigan State’s Bubble Competition: The High Majors. Overall MSU should make the tournament as long as they keep on the path they are on, and if their rivals can lose some of the rest of their game too.
