Every year ornaments are donated to the community by a family or company. This year’s ornaments were donated by Paul Gentilozzi and Debbie Gentilozzi. They are placed in town for everyone to see the wonderful decorations. The ornaments are an integral part of the Silver Bells parade every year.
Many companies participate in the parade. Decorating either their trucks or company vans as a christmas theme. Some companies incorporate religious features into their decorations, such as characters from the bible. Others took more unusual decorating routes, such as including clowns, live music, or popular cartoon characters. Common decorating themes for floats included trees, colorful light, and red and green themes.
The christmas tree placed in front of the capital as it is every year, had many awaiting it’s lighting. When the countdown begins, people of all ages pulled out their phones to capture the magical moment as well as join in on the counting. Many families and friends stand in front or beside the tree for pictures .
The popular catapillar made its way downtown, as the parade continued. The catabus gets dressed up as the catapillar for this event. The catapillar is not only popular for its play on words but also because it is the main source of transportation for many throughout the year. Many students stopped to take pictures of it passing by. The catapillar has always been a site to see, making it the most popular vehicle to make its way downtown every year.
The town decorates in preparation for this big event. Many businesses wrap the lamps near them in wreaths and lights for a magical appearance to those who make their way downtown. Some places leave a stand for by passers to get hot chocolate. The establishments will typically stay open later in hope to bring in more customers from the event.
