Common Application opened this summer to the Senior class of 2024. It’s around this time every year that students start their application process. This process includes writing their essay (if applicable), getting their teacher recommendations, and filling out their Common App. While some students find this process to be stressful, others find it exciting because it’s the start to a new chapter in their life.
“The colleges that I applied for didn’t require an essay so it was pretty easy,” Senior, Lainey Evans said.
Senior Ava Clark reflected on her perspective as a future collegiate athlete, “The application process didn’t stress me as much as the recruitment process did.”
Some students are applying and going to college with an athletic scholarship, so their application process looks different. Although they still have to apply like normal students and keep up the requirements to their school of choice, it is uncommon for a prospective athlete to not get accepted so that can put pressure off themselves.
College applications can be stressful for some students, especially with all they are required. Writing an essay that is supposed to determine whether or not you get into college/university can seem daunting. Students have found it hard to write an essay that encompasses everything they want to include.
“I would constantly be brainstorming ideas but never liked how they sounded out or didn’t feel as if it accurately reflected my entire personality and character… I realized that it is a difficult process considering you have to write about your entire life in a little text box,” Senior Cooper Kim described his process.
It has been over a month since Common App opened and most applications close in early 2024, so there is still time left to apply. “If you ever start to get frustrated in this process, realize that it takes time. But trust me, you’ll eventually be satisfied with your final work,” Kim stated.
