After teasing his fans for the whole duration of his ‘It’s All a Blur’ tour, the face of rap, Drake finally dropped a new single on September 15th at noon. The single, ‘Slime You Out’, features another Top100 artist, SZA. It went viral for being the first look at Drake’s new album, ‘For All The Dogs’. SZA’s feature made a lot of fans turn heads due to her and Drake’s past relationship back in 2008. The single maintained its spot at the peak of Top100 at number one for two weeks and three days. It then continued to move through the top three spots until the album was released for public attention.
On October 5th, Drake posted to his Instagram platform the music video to ‘8AM IN CHARLOTTE’, a song on the album’s tracklist. This was the second tease Drake had provided his fans with during the three week span before ‘For All The Dogs’ was released.
Bright and early at 6am on October 6th, ‘For All The Dogs’ was out for the public’s pleasure. The album includes 23 songs with a wide variety of tones and melodies. Some are more upbeat and hype while others are more sentimental and calm.
‘For All The Dogs’ features many other popular artists. All of the features include J. Cole, 21 Savage, Teezo Touchdown, Yeat, SZA, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Chief Keef, Bad Bunny, Lil Yachty and Sexxy Red. As far as the features go, each artist who was placed on the album has also had their own singles on the Top100. In the past, Drake had formerly produced songs with 21 Savage, PARTYNEXTDOOR, J. Cole, Lil Yachty and Bad Bunny. Another very popular feature was from the song ‘Virginia Beach” which features a sample of Frank Ocean’s unreleased song ‘Wiseman’.
Lots of fans claim that “For All The Dogs’ is the “best one yet.” Olivia Navin, a senior at GLHS, states, “it’s ecstatic and future album of the year. It cleanses my soul, beats my heart and tickles my tummy.” Navin stated this just two hours after the release of the album. She has been to one Drake concert during the summer of 2023 and claims, “the concert was very hype and the lights on the stage and the huge props made it better. It was one of the best moments of my life and I still think about it everyday.”
