Grand Ledge is having more and more students turn to drugs. This increase in drug usage has had students use things like vapes and marijuana pens in the bathroom. Senior, Jayden Bechtol states, “I have to try my hardest to not go to the bathroom anymore because they are always filthy, disgusting, and run down. On top of all of that, there are always people vaping and crowding the bathrooms making a simple task much worse. Something needs to be done.’’
This is one of the many students who want to make an impact on the school and its bathrooms. Some ideas to fix the problem are to hold people accountable for their actions, not allow multiple students to use the restroom at one time, and allow kids a safe space to report. School staff undoubtedly knows smoking and vandalism takes place in the bathrooms and still no results.
With smoking coming into the school bathrooms, it raises a concern; Where are these students getting vapes and weed pens? Many students get the devices in their possession from either people that are of age, or the store doesn’t ID them. For example, many stores allow anyone to come in without ID and young kids find these stores while overutilizing them. This story seems like just a Grand Ledge Public School story, but nonetheless a nationwide story.
