What is Galentine’s Day? Galentine’s is held on Feb. 13, the day before the real deal. This celebration was first brought up in an American sitcom, “Parks & Recreation” by Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope. The day is dedicated to friends showing their appreciation to one another instead of a partner.
There are plenty of activities that can be done at a Galentines party. Friends can do gift exchanges, like White Elephant or Secret Santa. Presents most of the time consist of makeup, stuffed animals, baked cookies, or miscellaneous items like the famous Stanley cup. Groups can meet up and go out for a fancy brunch while making stops at clothing stores or the mall. A night of baking heart shaped cookies, cakes and other pastries with a heart shaped pizza delivered is a great way to have fun staying in. A rom-com or board game can make time fly by and a photo shoot is perfect to capture the memories made.
“I’m attending a Galentine’s event with my close friends, and this is the first year that we are doing it. I think Galentines is a fun way to connect with friends and have a good time,” said Junior Faith Landers. Landers’ Galentines will be celebrated on Feb. 10, 2024. “We will be celebrating ourselves by eating fun foods, having meaningful talks, and spending quality time with each other,” she shared.
Bringing Galentines to Grand Ledge could be shared by Peppinos, located at S Clinton St, with their baked heart shaped pizzas for $18. This pizza would make a great centerpiece for the table along with homemade or store-bought treats. If baking isn’t an area of expertise, a good place for treats would be Flour Child with their selection ranging from cookies, brownies, tarts, sweet rolls and more.
