This year two Grand Ledge students made it to The State Honors choir. States Honors Choir is made up of the top choir students in Michigan. For the students to qualify for The State Honors Choir they have to audition for Regionals Honors Choir, and if they were selected, they have the opportunity to audition for State Honors Choir.
This year two students from Grand Ledge High School were picked to participate in the State Honors Choir.
Seniors Rawson Novak and Emma Thornton were the two Grand Ledge students who made it through the selection process. Both of these students are in Madrigals, the school’s top choir and are known as talented singers
Being in the choir takes a lot of hard work and dedication. “It was long hours but well worth it to perform with such amazing singers,” Novak said.
Being in a top choir nerves are excepted but not Rawson. He also stated“I wasn’t nervous when we actually were about to perform, but I was very nervous and excited to start rehearsing with other singers of such a high level,”
“Even though you put a lot of hard work and effort in with the other members, you also have to be willing to learn on your own. You have to learn lots of music on your own time which can be tedious, but it’s a great feeling when everyone puts in the work and sings together!” Thornton said.
Even though it was challenging, the reward that came out of the choir was worth it for many.“The experience was great, it’s such a fun way to meet new people your age who like to sing! It was a little nerve-racking to perform with new people and directors, but it’s super fun to make new friends and sing with them.” Thornton said.
These two being picked brought great pride to GLHS, and it showcases the talent that the Grand Ledge choir program produces.
