Grand Ledge Varsity Pom has just taken home the title of being the DII State Champions. The Varsity, JV, and Middle school teams competed at the Michigan Pom Association Championships at Saginaw Valley on February 4th.
In this Championship, they were judged on execution, choreography, formations, timing, and showmanship. The Grand Ledge’s Varsity team has had an incredibly successful season. They took home, for the very first time, a Class A title for the highest score tied with Hemlock Varsity. Our JV pom also had a successful time with a runner-up trophy as well as Middle School placing within the Top 5. Grand Ledge’s Varsity has won 3 out of 4 competitions this year.
Audrey Jestilla, a sophomore on the Varsity team spoke on what the team has been like for her this year.
“This year’s varsity’s culture changed drastically considering we had 6 seniors leave last year.” Jestilla shared that this is really what helped shape the team, also saying, “We knew it would be hard, but we had to work hard for it.” She also shared her love for this year’s team saying “Our team this year has some of the most talented girls that we’ve ever had in Grand Ledge Pom History.”
The team chemistry is also described with a lot of love saying “We are all so close that most days it’s fun to come to practice and just laugh together but we also know how to work hard together which I think is why we are such a unique team, everyone in the pom community believed in us and showed us in numerous ways.”
She goes on to share how the support from other schools like Howell, Swan Valley, Divine Child, South Lyon, and many more were extremely supportive and kind. As Well as the love and support from coaches, moms, and alumni.
