Many students at Grand Ledge High School (GLHS) have overheard peers talking about extensions in yearbook deadlines and even possible delays for distribution. The many questions and concerns students had about the Yearbook were answered by the end of April 2024.
“Some people doubted whether or not [the yearbook] was going to be completed in time for people to get their copies, but as of [April 3, 2024], the yearbook has been submitted,” junior Ellery Curtis, a Yearbook Staff writer said.
The students in Yearbook spent a lot of time getting the book submitted on time, despite the rumors that it would be delayed, “I know Westra-Hall and many students, as well as myself, who worked on the yearbook outside of class to get it submitted,” said Curtis.
The majority of the rumors spread as a result of misunderstandings from staff members, mainly stemming from push backs due to missed deadlines.
“I think people might’ve gotten overwhelmed and taken it out of context,” senior Avery Vandermeer, a Yearbook Photo Editor said.
The process of creating the yearbook is planned out from the beginning of the year, and spans the entire year, up until the day the books are passed out. “If you don’t know how the process works then it can be easy to assume,” senior Kayla Ly, a Yearbook Editor-in-Chief explained. “Within Yearbook, we were kind of panicking a little bit because we were missing a few deadlines.”
“Some Yearbook staff might’ve talked to their friends about it or stuff like that and I think that that meant to everybody that it’s not coming, even though that’s not the actual process of missing deadlines,” Ly further elaborated.
Most of the staff said that the yearbook was never going to be late. “The yearbook has been turned in, so as far as ‘the situation’ goes, there isn’t a situation,” Yearbook advisor Jason Westra-Hall said.
Even with doubts from students around the school, and some on staff, the teamwork and determination among the entire Yearbook staff was enough to push them to get the yearbook finished on time. As of April 26, 2024, the Yearbook team plans to begin distributing the books on May 24, 2024.
