Grand Ledge Boys Lacrosse has recently started up and has big plans for the upcoming season. The team is currently ranked 8th in the state by State Champs and 6th by Lax Numbers. “Our expectation for the season is to win the CAAC cup and to make a deeper run in playoffs and hope fully win a state championship,” junior CJ Panich said.
Last year the boys Varsity lacrosse team went undefeated in their league and are currently keeping that agenda by starting the season with a 3-0 record. A large component of the 3-0 record is the top talent that Grand Ledge has. Junior Tieson Cooper, a University of Michigan commit, is starting the season off with 35 points and 21 of those points being goals. Another big factor is senior Landon Parker, a Monmouth commit. Parker has an average face off percentage of 88 and currently has nine points.
With the great start of the season for them it has further proven why they have earned their spot on their respected D1 schools lacrosse team. The boys have a schedule full of home games against local and many ranked opponents.
Grand Ledge Girls Lacrosse has started their season off with a 3-0 record with a win against Livonia Stevenson, Howel, and East Lansing. With last year’s record for the girls Varsity team of 8-10-1. This year the players are hoping to make a change for the 2024 season.
“Our goal for the season is to win most of our games and to put all of our efforts towards the game,” freshman Adelina Ybarra said Seeing how a first year player on the team showed a lot of enthusiasm for the season displays how the girls lacrosse team is striving for a great season. The girl’s lacrosse team has only one freshman on the Varsity team, and this year is considered a retooling season to win the division. The girls team has two college commits, Addison Valler, a Northwood commit, is a co-captain and is leading the team in points and will need to continue this production of high-level play to help elevate the team. Ava Clark, another co-captain and Davenport commit, has scored four goals in the three games played this year.
In conclusion, the boys are continuing the preseason goal of being undefeated in their division and with high hopes of winning the CAAC cup, while the girls are starting off with three wins, and are pursuing the goal of having a winning record.
