As the spring tennis season starts, Jeff Darden has stepped up to be the new Varsity tennis Head coach. Darden has coached Junior Varsity for 5 years and this is his first year coaching Varsity. Darden wanted to start his coaching career to be more connected with his students.
“I wanted to be involved with students more than just in a classroom,” Darden expressed.
He talks about how having kids who are athletes also motivated his choice too become a coach.
“I have daughters who are athletes as well so I thought it would be a great way to be involved in extracurriculars,” Darden said.
In high school, he played tennis for fun so when there was an opening to be the JV coach he sprung at the opportunity to take leadership.
“I was always fairly decent at tennis. I’ve coached it in the past and honestly the position opened up when I was available, and so I said hey that would be great,” Darden explained.
As the new varsity coach, Darden shared his excitement about how the team looks and is hopeful to beat Holt this year.
As the season progresses stay on the lookout for some girl tennis matches and support your fellow comets!
