The girl’s Grand Ledge (GL) Varsity Softball team advanced to districts after taking the win for the Hall of Fame Diamond Classic. The girls played on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The tournament consisted of three games against Williamston, Fowlerville, Leslie and four other teams. The championship game was Grand Ledge vs. Leslie. Over the three games GL played there were a total of 6 home runs and three players receiving MVP of the game.
Coach Allison Miller was asked what it was like prepping for districts once it was confirmed that the girls were playing.
“The week of our districts seemed to go pretty fast. The overall atmosphere of that week seemed to be pretty excited from our recent Hall of Fame Diamond Classic win but also relaxed. Throughout the whole season, I continued to tell the team “It is just another day to play softball and another game to compete in, keep it simple. Go play how you know how to play with the attitude of one pitch at a time” and I just continued to reiterate that,” said Miller. After the Classic, the girls had pre-districts held at Lansing.
On the day of districts, May 31, 2024, Grand Ledge first played at 2 p.m. against Okemos winning 10-0 and then following at 6 p.m. They lost against Waverly 8-17 in the final.
“Prepping for districts was so fun, I felt like we had a really good mindset going into preparation for districts! I am very happy with our season and how far we made it,” said sophomore Varsity player, Abbey Fiero, shared. She also expressed on how she has worked on being a better player and teammate, as well as preparing for districts.
