As summer approaches local farmer markets open up for business again. Grand Ledge, East Lansing, Dewitt, Holt, and Downtown Lansing are a portion of the market locations open for the summer. Farmer markets can be found in every other town, if not every single town during the warmer months.
When looking to find a farmers market most information can be found online such as times, dates, what vendors will be there and food trucks that will be catering. Markets sell items ranging from sweet treats, bakery items, fresh produce or household items. If you’re not sure whether to go or not, products sold will most likely be listed on your town’s or nearby market.
Kailynn Stricker, a sophomore at Grand Ledge, was asked what’s something she looks forward to when the markets open.
“I try to look for thrifted books and I like looking at the organic products.”
Only one farmer’s market is open year round, Horrocks. Horrocks is located on W Saginaw in Lansing, and its consistently packed.
“I look forward to looking at all the different shops and stands because there are usually a lot of different things at farmers’ markets, and I like going to Horrocks Farm Market”, sophomore Maya Cool shared.
Farmers’ markets are a great way to support small farmers and businesses with better quality products and oftentimes cheaper prices. For more information on local markets, visit the link down below.
