She swims, She dives, They score!
Grand Ledge High School’s Girls Swim and Dive Team is taking on their season with high ambitions and goals as they make their way through the season seated at third overall in the conference. As they make their way through the season, Seniors look back on the memories they have made. Senior swimmer Sophie Cook elaborates on what she enjoys about swimming.
“My favorite part is definitely the team and getting to know the other girls that are on my high school team, and getting to be a part of such an amazing community,” Cook explained.
Senior Riley Saltzman also provided reasoning as to why she loves being on the swim team.
“My favorite part is when we have our team bonding events, we have our progressive dinners, and before our meets, we have our team chants.”
With talk about the past and present, seniors also look forward to their futures. While none of the current seniors plan on swimming competitively after high school, some hope to not give up the sport just yet.
“I am not competitively swimming after high school, but I don’t want to just give it up because that would make me very sad,” senior Hannah Totten said.
While some enjoy swimming being a solo sport, some prefer a team environment more.
“I like the team aspect more than the individual part because when you are on a team you get to rely on your friends and teammates, but when it comes to swimming it’s all about you,” Cook said.
Alternatively, senior swimmer Rebecca Freitag stated,“I really like [that] it’s an independent sport, I’m not much of a people person so being able to have an hour or two by myself is nice.”
Swimmers on the Grand Ledge High School Team express their excitement and eagerness as to why new swimmers should join the team.
“I think people should join swimming because it is such a fun community, and we get to have fun times together and get to meet great people,” Cook expressed.
Grand Ledge High School’s Girls Swim and Dive Team is already off to a strong start with a 7-2 record in the duel meets and two more meets before the CAAC conference.
