Tom Barrett attended the annual state tree cutting, days before the election. Barrett was running for Congress. He shares his plans for the State of Michigan as a representative.
Tom Barrett was born and raised in Michigan. He learned the value of hard work by watching his dad work two jobs and his mother being a stay-at-home mother for their seven children. Tom Barrett ran for the “Families and the people that live here in Mid-Michigan.”
Tom Barrett shared his most important plan to help Michigan is the biggest priority that we are facing right now in the country.
“What people tell me about when I talk to them is really the costs of living,” said Barrett.
Inflation, groceries, gas, and home-heating costs are some of the main issues the country is facing today.
“Though a high school student doesn’t cover all of those expenses, they can see and feel it in ways that they can perceive it,” Barrett said.
Another priority for Barrett is the need to secure the Southern borders.
“We’ve had over 10 million people come into the country illegally, just in the last few years alone,” Barrett said.
Immigration was a key issue for voters this election. Tom Barrett has experience with dangers happening in our country.
Tom Barrett also stated, “I’ve spent 22 years of my own life in the United States Army.” He has stood one-on-one with terrorists while serving. “I definitely do not want them coming into our country.”
Other than Barrett several other candidates were on the Eaton County ballot such as Senate, House, and Grand Ledge School Board.
For the Democrats (D), Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin represents the 7th district of Michigan. She ran for the State of Michigan Senate against Republican (R) Mike Rogers. Slotkin ultimately won this spot after it was a very close race. For the 7th district representatives, Tom Barrett (R) and Curtis Hertel (D) ran against each other and Barrett won this position. Angela Witwer (D) and Andy Shaver (R) both ran for the job of House of Representatives in the 76th district, and Witwer won this seat. The Grand Ledge School Board had 6 runners: Brenton Bell, Ben Cwayna, Coban Holmes, Matt Oppenheim, Kali Stevens, and Tim Totten. Holmes, Oppenheim, and Stevens won these positions. These candidates won based on how the people of Eaton County voted and whether they stood for the same policies.
Being elected into this position, Barrett plans to take these concerns very seriously. He represents his community of the 7th district of Michigan which includes Clinton, Shiawassee, Ingham, and Livingston, as well as portions of Eaton, Genesee, and Oakland Counties. Tom Barrett plans to focus on these concerns and make his two-year term important.
