The Grand Ledge High School Varsity Pom team, coached by Rachel Brown, Devan Dodge, and Hannah Lee, has another opportunity to compete at states for the 2024 – ‘25 season. States for the current season was held on Feb. 9, 2025 at Eastern Michigan University.
The girls ended their 2023 – ‘24 season winning their first state title, Class A Division ll State Champions, and beating the runner-up by 10.5 points. Points are given based on choreography, precision, pom usage, kickline, formations, skill, and overall impression.
Regionals and the Hip Hop and High Kick Championship for the 2024 – ‘25 season went well as the girls placed first place for both events.
“Definitely been winning our state hip hop title 3 years in a row, and that gives us confidence we are going to take into the next couple of weeks for our final competition,” Isabel Edgar, a junior who is now on her third consecutive year on the team, shares.
Competitions, such as regionals, bring high emotions and determination on the girls to perform well to move on. Edgar reveals her team and own superstitions before performing. “Normally before our biggest comp our coaches put stickers in our shoes that relate to the theme of the routine, and for me I wear my left sock inside out, I don’t really remember how I started doing that but its been working,” Edgar says.
“We would love to go back to back and win as we took home the state championship last year for the first time and we want to keep the title here with us at GL another year,” Jocelyn Armstrong, a junior on GLHS pom shares the team’s goals toward the end of the season.
Grand Ledge Pom have high hopes to continue their winning streak and bring more trophies back to the school.
“Every year we try to honor the legacy GL pom has, I think we definitely want to win Grand Champs at camp again, and I hope we will qualify into D1 next year at regionals”, Edgar comments.
