On Friday, Feb. 9, 2025 Grand Ledge held its annual Winter Homecoming Pep Assembly. Students from all grades gathered to celebrate this year’s winter homecoming. The pep assembly took place the day after a snow day,
“Even though we had a snow day the day before I felt prepared and ready to go,” junior member of student council Katie Halliwill.
The assembly, which took place in the main gym, with a featured theme centered around the four seasons—Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Students and staff wore their Grand Ledge gear, and seniors wore personally customized senior crowns.
The pep assembly started as the entire school entered the gym following the band playing the Grand Ledge fight song to get excited about the upcoming Homecoming festivities. The gym was filled with enthusiasm as students in every grade—freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors—came together, creating an atmosphere of school spirit.
The assembly also showcased the school’s Homecoming royalty. The Homecoming Court included two representatives from each grade and eight representatives for the senior class. each member was introduced individually, with cheers from the crowd. One student, freshman Ireland Magee shares her personal experience of being on court.
“Overall I thought it was really fun, I was a bit nervous because of the walking and being in heels, but the pictures and the lunch were fun because everyone on court got to meet each other and everyone was very nice.”
The students elected for royalty stood smiling to the audience, wearing their Homecoming sashes with pride. The Winter Homecoming Royalty would be announced at the basketball game later that night.
The assembly was packed with an array of engaging games that had everyone in stitches. One of the school-wide games of Hungry Hippo, where students, one laying on a boar with wheels pushed around by their partner by their legs, raced around the gym and tried to collect as many plastic balls as possible.
Another familiar game of Musical Chairs was played by all grades. As upbeat music filled the air, students dashed around the circle of chairs, racing to sit when the music stopped. Tensions ran high as fewer and fewer chairs remained with each round, but in the end, Saida, a Senior, won.
The final game of the day was Tug of War, a test of teamwork and strength. Each grade formed its team to pull its opponents across a line. The excitement reached its peak as the seniors faced off against the juniors. The seniors emerged victorious in their match.
Throughout the assembly, the theme of the four seasons played a key role in uniting the grades and staff. Each grade had its own designated season to represent The season-themed aspect allowed everyone to get creative with their attire throughout the week and show off their school spirit in unique ways. As the pep assembly drew to a close, the crowd The assembly successfully energized the school, bringing together students and staff in a shared experience of fun, competition, and spirit.
Winter Homecoming is a special time for our school, and Friday’s pep assembly was a perfect way to kick off the celebration. Whether it was the pep assembly, dance, basketball game, or simply the joy of coming together as a community, Friday’s pep assembly will be a memory that lasts all year long.
