Since the beginning of 2025, there has been a spike in coverage of plane crashes. Are there more plane crashes or are they just being covered more? On Feb. 17, 2025, a Delta Airline plane flipped over and landed upside down on the runway in Toronto. Recently there have been a lot more plane crashes getting noticed like the collision of the American Airlines and the US Army helicopter that left 67 dead.
“It feels like now planes are scarier than before, I’ve never really liked traveling by plane but this just makes me want even less,” senior Alexis Garcia-Zaragoza said.
In the past years, the number of plane accidents has been lower but since January there has been an interesting increase.
Despite the news reassurances, the recent spike in crashes has fueled debates over whether enough is being done to prevent such disasters. Many argue that stricter safety protocols and faster technological advancements are needed to further reduce the likelihood of accidents.
“Since the crashes, I’ve been feeling like the airlines need to be doing more to prevent these crashes, why are so many happening and there hasn’t been much to try and stop it,” senior Faith Landers said.
Lander travels a lot due to being in Girl Scouts and every summer there is a new family trip.
”It just gets more and more scary thinking about my trips,” Lander said.
For now, travelers are left navigating their fear, hoping that the airline industry can continue to prioritize safety and restore confidence in flying.
