As the Grand Ledge High School’s (GLHS) varsity boys basketball team advances to Districts, they will go head-to-head with Waverly on Feb. 26, 2025. Grand Ledge and Waverly’s basketball teams faced each other on Jan.7, 2025. Grand Ledge lost the game 67-50. The GLHS basketball team currently holds a record of 9-11. They are hoping for a positive outcome for this game and continue to the next round.
The team has been working hard all year to prepare. Junior, Caden Taylor has been on varsity for a year, he sees how much the team has grown throughout the season and believes that districts will challenge them mentally and physically.
“I think the mindset we need to have going into the game is confidence and have good communication between the team,” Taylor says.
The team has set goals they strive to achieve by the end of their season.
“One goal we set as a team was to place high in conferences and win Districts,” sophomore Kingston Nixon said.
Nixon has been on varsity as a freshman and has seen the team grow. Though he has been on varsity since a freshman, he has adopted a mindset that all the players can relate to.
“I think the best thing to do in a game when I’m stressed out is slowing down to clear my head,” Nixon said.
On Feb.26, 2025, Grand Ledge and Waverly played at East Lansing High School. The boys lost against Waverly. Grand Ledge scored 56 points while Waverly scored 73 points
The team felt they worked hard getting back, collecting rebounds, and communicating with one another.
Grand Ledge boys basketball faced many challenges this season, difficult games, and struggles they had to overcome as a team.
“Our one team goal this year as to play together and win Districts,” senior Carson Daly said.
