As the spring season approaches, so do a lot of seniors’ last sports too. The spring sports include girls and boys lacrosse, track and field, boys golf, Baseball and softball, girls tennis and girls soccer.
Tryouts took place the first week of the third trimester Monday, March 10th to Friday, March 14. Even though tryouts are only a week-long, a lot of spring sports do conditioning to prepare for the start of the season weeks or months before.
Tryouts also may look different for some sports that don’t have a JV team like the girl’s lacrosse.
“Since we don’t have a JV team our tryouts look different than most sports, but now that I’m a senior I was able to show my leadership more when it came to the beginning of our season, ” said senior Nadya Styles who has been on the team for three years.
“Our tryouts weeks have always been hard but now that I’m a senior and I’ve done this four times now I know what to look forward to, but it’s always still hard and exhausting after the weeks are done,” said senior Naomi Fitton. Fitton has been playing soccer for many years and has been part of the Grand Ledge high school team for four years.
“It’s bittersweet, lacrosse has been a big part of my high school career and it is hard to say goodbye to it,” said senior Thomas Callehgnen-Keefer.
“I’m going to make my last season the best by doing the best I can while enjoying my last moments with my teammates.”
Be on the lookout for all the upcoming games and events this spring and the senior night to celebrate the grand seniors. There are also a lot of seniors continuing their athletic careers in college like Tieson Cooper going to the University of Michigan to keep playing lacrosse.
