Recently, Grand Ledge High School (GLHS) seniors had their last week of high school. As a tradition, the seniors do a final spirit week to soak up their last high school moments. During this week the seniors get to share their sadness of what they are leaving behind, but this moment brings the excitement of new beginnings. The last bittersweet moments bring in the memories of their overall high school experiences. These seniors talk about their memories of high school.
Before entering high school, many have a certain view of what they need to do to have the perfect high school experience. But after going through high school, views change and people grow with their experiences.
“Prior before stepping into high school I was obsessed with the idea that I need to work for myself, have my own foundation, everything needs to be done by you and you only, but the thing that helped me a lot that you need to lean on people and value other people’s experiences as much as yours,” said Jamemah Dos-Reis, a senior at GLHS
The memories high school brings are unforgettable. Although high school may feel like it continues to drag and many feel ready to get out and graduate, those memories that were created will be missed.
“The subtleties of tiny memories, it’s really about the tiny moments that you make, so much is so like passing someone in the hallway or being close friends with someone for a trimester, those memories really hang on,” said Dos-Reis.
While others that are not graduating grief because their friends that are seniors are graduating.
“I’m gonna miss hanging out with them because my senior friends are really cool and they’re really fun to talk to and ask for advice,” said Ryleigh Cain, a freshman at GLHS.
With the seniors leaving many teachers have little to no students in their classes, but during the final year with the seniors they created many memories.
“I have a lot of students who like to make up quizzes and tests, and I do a lot of office hours during C3,” said Mrs. Rachel Hess.
Seniors have been dedicated to high school for the past 4 years and have made many accomplishments throughout high school.
“My greatest high school achievement has been as National Honor Society president, doing my donation drive and being able to send all those donations to regions in West Africa,” said Dos-Reis.
Seniors should be proud of getting through these 4 years, no matter the size, every accomplishment matters and seniors have achieved so much on their journey throughout high school.
“I survived high school,” said Kailey Carey, a senior at GLHS.
Graduation is to celebrate the hard work and growth that the seniors have put in during their years of high school.
