After Grand Ledge High School [GLHS] seniors leave, the hallways become empty, there’s less traffic in the parking lot, and the anticipation of summer rises. The class of ‘25 is signing out and leaving their mark at Grand Ledge on their last week. Seniors ended a day earlier than a regular week of school on Thursday, May 19th.
Grand Ledge High School student council planned the Seniors’ last spirit week with themes such as, Adam Sandler, Meme Day, Anything But A Backpack, and Tropical.
Rising seniors, the class of 2026, are conflicted with their emotions as many friends are leaving or they cannot wait for their last year. Morgan Combs, a junior at GLHS, shares what she will miss most about the Seniors.
“I will miss having them in class and talking the whole hour when my senior friends are gone.”
On the other hand, Joy Shakespeare, also a junior, feels the opposite.
“I do enjoy the last two weeks just because there are significantly less people and it makes it easier to get places.”
The class of 2025 may not have left yet, but 2026 seniors are already in the mindset for their last year at Grand Ledge. Shakespeare expresses what she’s most excited for.
“Easy classes and doing senior things with my friends.”
As students graduate and move on to bigger things in life, Shelby Mercer, a junior at GLHS, admits, “Knowing that their open houses might be the last time I see some of my senior friends for a while makes me sad, but happy to see that there’s more to life than high school.”
On the other hand, Mercer expresses, “I’m looking forward to homecoming and no SAT’s” for her last portion of high school.
It all really depends on who you associate yourself with during and after school hours.
Comb shares, “Previously like the past years here I haven’t had many friends who were seniors so the atmosphere in the school wasn’t really all that different.”
