The Grand Ledge Volleyball program is having an absolutely incredible season. Led by the senior duo upfront of Jenna James and Ella Didion, Grand Ledge has been rolling.

The Comets finished off the season slow, losing to both Okemos and Dewitt in the final two weeks of the season. “I’m really loving this team and playing without our seniors next year is going to be hard.” said junior Izzy Gonzalez. Their three conference losses came to two talented squads in Okemos and Dewitt.

The games were intense, to say the least. The many momentum switches and questionable officiating in key moments contributed to the losses and stained the great play the Comets have seen this year. “The games have been crazy, although we’ve lost some I am really proud of how the team has played and I think that our talent will show come playoff time,” said Gonzalez.

That was no lie. The Comets’ first playoff game was against a poor Waverly team and was a quick and easy win. But the district championship was no easy feat. The Comets came out slow and were struggling early but turned it around fast. Key plays by senior Jenna James contributed to the momentum and there was no taking the foot off the gas. Following the loss in set one, the Comets’ won three straight and secured the district title.

Heading into next week, the Comets’ play a tough Brighton team at Dewitt and look to secure the first Regional matchup.

Following this season the Comets’ future is bright and exciting. Two freshmen in Olivia Langin and Kylie Goodman have shown immense potential and present a very promising future. Goodman was in the running for Lansing State Journal athlete of the week for her outstanding play achieving 19 kills (points scored) in one game!

Hopefully, the Comets’ can finish on a high note and secure a regional or even state title.
