The Grand Ledge Comets had their best performance this season in the biggest game of the year. The Comets had a senior night face-off with their cross-town rival the Dewitt Panthers.

The record-setting performance by Shawn Foster was the highlight of the night. Foster the first-year quarterback for the Comets had 396 yards and 7 touchdowns! The Panthers had no answer for the Grand Valley State Commit and the crowd was electric. “That was the first time I’ve ever noticed the crowd during a game,” Foster said.

Before the game started the seniors were honored and as expected emotions were high. The pre-game emotions carried into the start of the game as the Comets went down seven on the first play of the game after a 75-yard touchdown run by Dewitt senior athlete Bryce Kurncz. A long 10-play drive was the response the Comets needed to tie the game up at seven.

The game was back and forth for four quarters. Shawn Foster made big plays all night long including multiple 50-yard touchdown runs, the first of the three was another game-tying touchdown that went for 70 yards. After a Noah McCartney pick the Comets went up 28-21 heading into the half. Coming out of the half Foster had another long touchdown run that put the Comets up 35-21.

Heading into the fourth quarter the score was 42-35 and the Comets were driving. The Panthers tied the game up at 42 and the Comets got the ball. After another long drive capped off with a Comet touchdown they led 49-42. The Panthers just would not go away tying the game up again at 49.

Shawn Foster made another long touchdown run for 65 yards and a touchdown after he broke 2 tackles made a spin and then spun away from the last defender for a touchdown putting the Comets up 56-49 with less than a minute to go. The Comets were able to put the Panthers away after a tough final stop.
